TWANG

by morelearning @ 13/01/07 - 10:42:08 am

I'm still in bed at 10-30am on Saturday. That might be you, but it's not really me.

I have three kids remember. Though none of them are here).

This is because I played 5 a side football yesterday, and I stretched for an impossible ball (too competitive; too old; on a hat-trick).

Something went TWANG and I've been in pain ever since.

It made cycling home interesting.

If you're interested (and why would you be) it's in the back of my right thigh; for some reason the word "ganglia" springs to mind.

So I'm following Mark Ellen's advice and trawling YouTube for music.
Unlike the rest of the world, I've never posted a clip before so this probably won't work, which would be appropriate as it's Otway.

That's me for the day, I think. Enjoy yours. And if you've had to work Saturday, like Sixy, you have my sympathy. Snigger.

I looked ganglia up on the internet -dont know why - it is a good though disturbing word......

"Surgery is the only effective treatment for ganglia. Traditionally, ganglia were burst by hitting them with a heavy object, usually the family bible."
:)) so out with the family bible....:))

Hi morelearning.

I looked up ganglia too. Couldn't understand a word. So now that I'm an expert I recommend bed rest.:)

Take care.

Nate.

Ok.
I looked it up.
Now I need a new word.

I suspect it's "muscle"

That and "torn"

Are you sure it was a twang and not a twong? Or perhaps a rasping pinging sound or was that you farting? The sound is vital as twangs and ganglias dont tend to go together. It could very well be that you've strained or torn a hamstring - Read below :-
When the hamstring is injured and a twonging sound is heard the fibers of the muscles or tendon are actually torn. The body responds to the damage by producing enzymes and other body chemicals at the site of the injury. These chemicals produce the symptoms of swelling and pain.

In a severe injury big twongs will be heard and everyone around will stop and go ooooooh as the small blood vessels in the muscle can be torn as well. This results in bleeding into the muscle tissue. Until these small blood vessels can repair themselves, less blood can flow to the area. With this reduced blood flow, the muscles cannot begin to heal.

The chemicals that are produced and the blood clotting are your body's way of healing itself. Your body heals the muscle by rebuilding the muscle tissue and by forming scar tissue.Rest, ice, compression, elevation, bed rest and staying off the nest, carefully stretching and exercising your injured muscle helps maximize the building of muscle tissue as you heal.
Hope this helps. bs

EVERYONE has been recommending RICE.
I has a Chicken Tikka Massala on Friday night but it didn't seem to do that much good!
